About

What is therapeutic art?

Therapeutic art is a creative process used to support emotional well-being, self-awareness, and healing. It combines elements of psychology and art-making to help people explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe, and non-verbal way.

It is a gentle and imaginative way to reconnect with yourself, no art experience needed. Whether you're navigating a life transition or simply craving a little more peace and clarity, these sessions offer a safe, supportive space to explore and express what’s within.

Therapeutic art can help with -

  • Reducing stress and anxiety

  • Processing trauma or grief

  • Improving self-esteem

  • Enhancing emotional regulation

  • Increasing self-understanding

Offerings

Individual Sessions

60 - 90 minutes

An individual session with Nikki is an invitation to slow down, reconnect, and express yourself through creative exploration. In a safe, supportive space, you’ll work with a variety of artistic mediums—like paint, clay, pastels, or natural materials—to uncover what’s stirring within.

Each session is guided by your unique needs and intentions. Whether you’re looking to ease stress, process emotions, or simply tap into your creative self, Nikki meets you exactly where you are, with compassion and curiosity.

No art experience is necessary, just a willingness to explore. These 60–90 minute sessions are a time to breathe, to create, and discover new layers of insight and healing, one brushstroke at a time.

“Nikki Moon is able to skillfully and compassionately guide art which unlock creativity and allow for gentle exploration and insight . As a therapist,  I see the work Nikki Moon offers as being complementary to Inner Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, Inner child work, and generally expanding knowledge and care of our inner selves. She brings a lifetime of study, activism, group work, and art to her facilitation, which allows for safe space to go deep.”

Sessions

2 hours to full day experiences

Your group sessions with Nikki offer a unique and nourishing blend of creative exploration, community connection, and personal insight. Together in a supportive circle, you will be guided through hands-on art experiences designed to foster trust, self-expression, and meaningful interaction.

Using a variety of mediums, such as painting, clay, pastels, printmaking, mix media, or natural materials, your group will engage in both individual and collaborative practices. These sessions naturally invite team-building, deep listening, and shared discovery, offering space for each person to be seen and heard while contributing to a greater whole.

Through group dynamics, you may discover a renewed sense of belonging, compassion, and connection, not only with others, but also with yourself.

Group sessions are ideal for:

  • Families or friend circles

  • Workplace teams

  • Youth groups or school communities

  • Any group seeking healing through shared creative experience

“I have had the honor of attending creative art sessions with Nikki now for a number of years. She has a unique gift of offering art in inviting and accessible ways to touch far deeper and get a true glimpse of what is going on beneath the surface while allowing space for exploration, self reflection and fun to come through.  I love that I never know what to expect when coming to a session, but always leave with profound insight and a deeper sense of my own path and purpose.”

Meet Nikki

Nikki is an artist, educator, and therapeutic guide with more than 30 years of professional art experience and a deep commitment to creative healing. She specializes in therapeutic art–informed sessions, trauma-sensitive creative practices, nature-based education, and hands-on art experiences for children, teens, and adults.

As a seasoned educator, Nikki has taught early childhood through graduate-level students, including serving as adjunct faculty at Antioch University. She founded and directed an arts nonprofit supporting at-risk youth in Alternative Education, group homes, residential treatment, juvenile hall, community centers, and clean & sober schools.

Her extensive background in working with adolescents—particularly those navigating trauma—shapes her compassionate, grounded approach. She also serves with Emergency Pedagogy Without Borders, bringing trauma-informed, art-based support to crisis-impacted communities.

In 2020, Nikki founded Forest School AVL, a nature-immersive, play-based program designed to help children and adults reconnect with the outdoors, build resilience, and thrive through experiential learning.  Learn more at www.forestschoolavl.com.

Nikki holds a Master’s in Education, a Waldorf grades teaching certificate, a BA in Fine Arts, and is in her fourth year of advanced Art Therapy training at the Kairos Institute. She is also a graduate of the Lifeways Early Childhood program, giving her a deep understanding of human development from early childhood through adulthood.

Warm, intuitive, and deeply nurturing, Nikki creates spaces where people feel safe to explore, express, and transform. She lives in Asheville with her husband and three children, continually inspired by nature, community, and the healing power of art.
